Weighted Diffeomorphic Density Matching with Applications to Thoracic Image Registration

چکیده
In this article we study the problem of thoracic image registration, in particular the estimation of complex anatomical deformations associated with the breathing cycle. Using the intimate link between the Riemannian geometry of the space of diffeomorphisms and the space of densities, we develop an image registration framework that incorporates both the fundamental law of conservation of mass as well as spatially varying tissue compressibility properties. By exploiting the geometrical structure, the resulting algorithm is computationally efficient, yet widely general.

Evaluation of Similarity Measures for Template Matching
Image matching is a critical process in various photogrammetry, computer vision and remote sensing applications such as image registration, 3D model reconstruction, change detection, image fusion, pattern recognition, autonomous navigation, and digital elevation model (DEM) generation and orientation. The primary goal of the image matching process is to establish the correspondence between two ...
متن کاملHierarchical Attribute-Guided Symmetric Diffeomorphic Registration for MR Brain Images
Deformable registration has been widely used in neuroscience studies for spatial normalization of brain images onto a standard space. Due to high anatomical variances across individual brains, registration performance could be limited when trying to estimate entire deformation pathway either from template to subject or subject to template. Symmetric image registration offers an effective way to...
متن کاملDISCO: A Coherent Diffeomorphic Framework for Brain Registration under Exhaustive Sulcal Constraints
Neuroimaging at the group level requires spatial normalization of individual structural data. We propose a geometric approach that consists in matching a series of cortical surfaces through diffeomorphic registration of their sulcal imprints. The resulting 3D transforms naturally extends to the entire MRI volumes. The Diffeomorphic Sulcal-based COrtical (DISCO) registration integrates two recen...
متن کاملComparing algorithms for diffeomorphic registration: Stationary LDDMM and Diffeomorphic Demons
The stationary parameterization of diffeomorphisms is being increasingly used in computational anatomy. In certain applications it provides similar results to the non-stationary parameterization alleviating the computational charge. With this characterization for diffeomorphisms, two different registration algorithms have been recently proposed: stationary LDDMM and diffeomorphic Demons. To our...
متن کاملDiffeomorphic Diffusion Registration of Lung CT Images
Registration of the lungs in thoracic CT images is required in many fields of application in medical imaging, for example for motion estimation, analysis of pathology progression or the generation of shape atlases. In this paper, we present a robust registration approach that has been optimized for the registration of thoracic CT data. The algorithm consists of an initial shape-based adjustment...
